ASTROLOGY TODAY -  in brief

Today, almost any kind of Astrology information one needs can be found on the World Wide Web.  The internet puts instant Astrology knowledge into the hands of anyone with a computer and an internet connection.  The problem these days is so much information is available that a newbie can be overwhelmed with confusion.  in addition, there is a sea of mis-information which appear to be reliable.  Astrology throughout history has gone through many changes and today’s Astrology is a genuine slippery smorgasbord.

Lately, there has been a revival of Traditional Astrology as practiced in Europe during 1200-1700.   Many believe that prediction was at its very “best” during this time and that after this period astrologer’s predictive techniques became diluted with the invention of psychology and the New Age philosophical outlook stealing the focus.   Astrology has transformed from a precise predicting tool into a pychological insight tool and during this change much technical predictive knowledge was sadly lost.  However, there are many who are pushing Traditional Astrology and some of the original leaders are Robert Hand, Robert Schmidt, and Robert Zoller.  The followers seem strongly convicted that the Traditional Methods used during 1200-1700 consistantly out-score Modern Astrology’s Techniques.  Project Hindsight has played a big role in this revival.  No longer working together, Mr. Hand, Mr. Schmidt, and Mr. Zoller’s greater purpose may have been simply to ignite this come-back movement.   Afterall, Astrology doesn’t belong to any one person nor to any one group; it belongs to us all and always will.

I am wading through the webmaze of astrological data on the internet. Frankly, I am overwhelmed and I have no idea where to begin sifting through the maze of knowledge. I want to find the quickest way to learn the “TRUTH” and I do not know where I should begin. From reading your blogs, I find that you seem to have a inner wisdom that I have not seen before on the web. You are genuine and you come from your heart in a brassy sorta way. I will be looking for your future blogs as I know you have much to offer us all.

The “wading through” phase can be exhausting! I’ll try to tell you like it is….as I know it so far today. I’ve self-taught myself Modern Mainstream Western Astrology for the past four years, by reading Astrology books from the big box bookstores. I wanted to learn Astrology because I had finally found a marriage partner I wanted to grow old with and wanted some guidance on how we as individuals and as a couple could get the most out of life—basically how to be healthy, wealthy and wise….AND how to stay together. I thought just learning NATAL Astrology would accomplish this for me, but as it turns out it is much more complicated than that! However, studying my natal chart HAS provided me with a mountain of insight about myself and my life potential.

There are different branches of Astrology for different applications. Such as if you want to psycho-analyze yourself, know your potential, your personality, number of children, number of marriages, number of divorces, most profitable career path, general health, etc…..you would learn NATAL Astrology. The natal chart basically tells you WHAT potential you and your life has, whereas PREDICTION tells you WHEN these potentialities are most likely to manifest.

If you were to study the History of Astrology, you would discover that Astrology was at its peak in Europe between 1200-1700 A.D. as far as its “prediction accuracy of outward visible events.” The Astrology practiced in Europe during this time is referred to as “Traditional Astrology” and includes a short period called Medieval Astrology. From what I’ve read, both are highly accurate, but intensely complex. Many of these past Astrologers were also MATHEMATICIANS! Shortly after this period Astrology was heavily influenced by the invention of psychology theories and New Age ideas. This mixing resulted in altering Astrology from a precise physical predictive tool to a highly sophisticated psychological analysis tool. Sadly, many valuable predictive techniques were lost in this process. This change caused us to gain much psychological insight, but to lose accurate outward prediction ability. This includes all Astrology practiced after 1700, including Eastern Astrology—i.e. Vedic.

Many leading Astrologers today are working very hard to bring back these oldies but goodies by translating ancient books of that era that were originally written in Latin and Greek. As they are getting translated and published these techniques are spreading and being used by Astrology students and professionals. How strong “our love of prediction is” will determine whether these techniques will become popular or die out again. Throughout history, prediction has gone through some unpopular phases and for good reason. Imagine being the President or the King of a country and picking up a popular Astrology magazine that has the date of YOUR death in it for all to see!! These kinds of careless obnoxious cocky predictions are hurtful and cause extreme reactions, such as making Astrology illegal or having Astrologers beheaded!

If you want to analyze your RELATIONSHIP—using today’s Modern Astrology—you would need to learn how to read a:

    ~Natal chart (for each individual)
~Synastry chart (a comparison of the two individuals and their chemistry)
~Composite chart (a chart of “the relationship”)

These are the basic steps involved in understanding the potential of a relationship, including the relationship’s over-all lasting potential, lasting satisfying sexual potential, and wealth-gain potential. Most of these techniques are Modern Astrology Techniques, yet are fairly accurate.

If you want to be able to answer random questions such as: Where did I lose my wallet? Will I get a raise? Who will find Sally? Will I have a miscarriage? Will Uncle Bob survive his surgery? Then you would need to learn how to read HORARY charts. Interestingly, the techniques used in Horary Astrology are pretty much the same techniques that were used by the TRADITIONAL Astrologers of 1200-1700 A.D. in Europe. William Lily of that time is the “expert” that most Horary Astrologers swear by.

If you wanted to understand the phases, manifestation and future of a COUNTRY then you would study MUNDANE Astrology. If you wanted to use Astrology in the Stock-Market or for BUSINESS you would study FINANCIAL Astrology (particularly Gann’s techniques). If you wanted to learn about HEALTH you would study MEDICAL Astrology.

Each branch—mentioned above—can easily take years to learn, so it is best to decide beforehand what it is you want to know and understand FIRST.

To answer your question on “where to begin”:

    1) Learn the BASIC language of Astrology, which means learn what keywords are associated with each Planet, Sign, House, and Aspect. Modern Astrology is not THAT far off from agreeing with Traditional Astrologers in this regard. See my “FREE ASTROLOGY COURSE” page to get you started. This alone can keep you busy for months and months!!

    2) Learn Modern Astrology’s techniques for reading your Natal Chart. Despite the fact that these techniques are–according to some Astrologers–somewhat inferior to Tradional techniques, it is at least more in the grasp of understanding for the average person and still provides a WEALTH of insight and USABLE information.
