NORTH NODE = LIFE PURPOSE AND DIRECTION
Of everything in your natal chart, the North Node is probably the single most important information that you can obtain. It is your Soul and Life Purpose. The North Node is an important pointer along the pathway of life, showing the right direction toward True Spiritual Fulfillment. And, that’s what we are all looking for, whether we realize it or not. However, you’ll have to be willing to get out of your “comfort zone” and create new habits to meet the challenge of your North Node, but the rewards will be great! These rewards will come in the form of personal growth and reaching your potential goals. It can, also, make your life a lot easier while filling it with deep meaning.
The North Node shows you what qualities you need to develop and/or accomplish in this life. By sign it denotes the psychological shift that needs to occur within your personality. These are the personality lessons that you are to learn in this lifetime. The house that your North Node is located in shows the life experiences that will allow you to access this new psychological awareness. It indicates the arena in which the life lessons of your North Node are learned.
The South Node shows the well developed skills and talents you already possess that you can use to accomplish these things. It shows the place where you feel comfortable…too comfortable, many times. If you head in the direction of your South Node, you get into a rut and you can’t seem to find satisfaction. And worse, your life can stagnate. This effect is heightened if there are planets making a conjunction to the South Node. Usually, only the North Node is included in the horoscope, because the South Node is always exactly opposite the North Node.
Important Point: When you finally learn to express your North Node, the positive traits of your South Node sign shine through. We tend to cling to our comfortable South Node sign, but if we do, we are seldom happy with the result. Ironically, it is only when we concentrate on our North Node sign that we get what we want from our South Node placement. The Sign position of your nodes show the main battle you have to deal with. The House position shows which area of your life that that struggle will take place.

In your natal chart locate the North Node. The symbol is shown below. See which sign it is in by comparing it to the sign symbols below. The first column tells you the things you need to develop, the second column shows what you need to stop doing, and the third column shows your general Life Direction. Applying these will bring more harmony and ease to your life. Mastering them will lead you to true spiritual fulfillment.
My Own Personal Experience with the North Node
The result my following MY OWN North Node has proven to me its importance. Before teaching Astrology, at age 45, I was a very serious business woman and owned and operated a successful advertising company. Business and chasing money never made me happy, no matter how much I made, and at one time, I made a lot! Once I started teaching others how to read their own natal chart, I felt like I had found my calling!
Since my North Node is in Cancer and my South Node is in Capricorn, my Life Purpose is to NURTURE others using business ONLY as a backdrop, and that’s exactly what I was doing every time I taught. My Capricorn South Node indicates that business played a huge role in my past lives. So, “business woman” was not the direction I was suppose to be going if I wanted to find fulfillment. In fact, it was the opposite direction I was meant to go! All those years of struggling as a business woman and all that money I made, never fulfilled me. I still felt empty and incomplete. Well, these days I’m following my North Node in Cancer and I’ve never felt so fulfilled in my life!
In my study of Astrology there weren’t very many books that put an emphasis on the North Node. It wasn’t until AFTER I started following my North Node that I found material that spoke about it as a vital indicator in the natal chart. One such book really impacted me: Astrology For The Soul, by Jan Spiller. In fact, the chart above is based on Jan Spiller’s book. What I read in that book about my North Node was so recognizable that I cried, I laughed and I even got pissed off. That’s what the truth does sometimes, isn’t it? I shared this book with my students and they all had the same “blown away” reaction when they read about their North Node. After reading it, you just sit there numb with your mouth open. Jan Spiller has really contributed a precious and rare gift to the Astrological community! If you want insight to your special talents, inner feelings, self-defeating tendencies, relationship strategies, and past lives, this book delivers in a big way.
There is no substitute for “knowing within that you are on the RIGHT path.” It’s a feeling that’s difficult to describe. It kind of feels like “coming home,” and your life just starts to become more harmonious. I’ve learned the hard way, that no amount of money, success or personal possessions can give you that satisfied feeling of “my life makes sense and has a purpose,” unless you are on your true path.
Moving in the direction of our true path is the only thing that completely fulfills us, and when we are heading in that direction, it just feels RIGHT.
Sing this to the Tucan Sam commercial jingle as a reminder: “Follow Your Node. It always knows.”
Please, do your utmost to promote Peace and Love in our World!

Right now I have no direction in my life. I really need some guidance with the uncertainty. I recently went through a divorce and I just need some reassurance that things will eventually be right again. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
