How to know if you are compatible with another person by comparing Astrological Birth Charts .
This seems like an impossible task, but a little Astrology knowledge can go a long way in saving you time and grief when it comes to the dating game! The basic formula has been used for thousands of years by astrologers and is still relevant today. Because of our biological makeup, Love, Romance, and Sex are all very important to most people. And, for good reason. Afterall, reproduction is what keeps all living organisms from becoming extinct. From a big-picture standpoint these natural lusty urges should be celebrated and we should be grateful they are there, however, discretion can minimalize the number of heartbreaks we have on a personal level. Bad relationships can really be depressing and discouraging. Wouldn’t it be nice to know BEFORE you got involved with that person if there will be harmony or discord? Wouldn’t it be nice to know BEFORE you got involved if the relationship had “lasting potential” or not? Well, you can! It simply takes a little research and some thinking.
The formula below is simply a “quickie” check for the lay person. A complete astrological relationship analysis is much more in-depth and time-consuming and should be done by a professional astrologer if you really want the ‘low-down.’ Humans are complex creatures and two together DOUBLES that complexity!
Below are the basic steps to see if you should get –or stay–involved with that LOVER:
Step 1: The TIME of birth must be known for both of you. For some, this is the hardest step since some people don’t have the time of birth specified on their birth certificate. However, the correct time of birth is VITAL for an accurate compatibility reading. Please, don’t rely on your mother’s memory. Experience has proven that we all would like to believe that our mothers would never forget such an important time, but the truth is: they do. I am a mother and an Astrologer and I can’t even remember the time my children were born! If the time is not on your birth certificate you can ask your mother to dig out old records such as a baby book or diary and see if your time of birth was recorded there. If that is a dead end, then you can always call the hospital that you were born in and request this information (this is what I had to do).
Step 2: Write down the birth information for both of you. This needs to include: date of birth, time of birth, place of birth (city, county, state, country). Triple-check the information for accuracy.
Step 3: Go to www.Astro.com and sign up (it’s totally FREE!). Here you can get your astrological birth charts calculated and printed out with the confidence that it will be correct (provided you type in the birth information correctly). This is one of the best sites to learn and practice astrology.
After you have signed up at Astro.com, follow the steps below to get your chart printed out:
a) Click “Horoscope Home” (near top of the page)
b) Click “Free Horoscopes” (near top of the page)
c) Click “Chart Drawing, Ascendant” (near bottom, right)
d) Click “Add a new person” (to the right of the GO button)
e) Add your birth information, double-checking that is correctly entered.
f) When you are done, click “Continue” and should see your chart.
e) If you have trouble printing it out from there, you can copy and paste it into a word file, resize it and print it from there.
Step 4: Print out both of your Astrological birth charts or what is commonly referred to as your natal charts.
Step 5: Notice the sign symbols on the outer ring of the wheel.
The blue signs represent WATER.
The red signs represent FIRE.
The green signs represents EARTH.
The orange signs represents AIR.
Water, Fire, Earth and Air are called the ELEMENTS. Notice that there are three of each.
Step 6: Take a moment to memorize the following elements which are COMPATIBLE:
All Same Elements = Ideal HARMONY, but possibility of boredom and could lack of stimulation.
FIRE + AIR = Complementary HARMONY with some ’spice’ for stimulation and growth.
WATER + EARTH = Complementary HARMONY with some ’spice’ for stimulation and growth.
These are the element combinations that operate HARMONIOUSLY and that’s what you want when using this formula. Any other combination–within the Love formula–will bring DISCORD and CONFLICT. THIS formula lets you know if the relationship has LASTING potential or not. Even though fighting can be stimulating, an extremely disharmonious relationship doesn’t usually last because it is too draining in the long-run. One of the partners usually gets fed up with it and leaves.
ELEMENTS and their SIGNS:
Fire Signs: Aries , Leo , Sagittarius
Air Signs: Gemini, Libra , Aquarius
Water Signs: Cancer , Scorpio , Pisces
Earth Signs: Taurus , Virgo , Capricorn
Step 7: Get out a piece of paper or a notebook and pencil (to erase your mistakes). Lay both charts where you can see them.
If you don’t know what the symbols mean in the natal charts, then you will have a slight learning curve. No worries, now that we have the internet!!! There are many good sites that provide Astrological Symbols. You will need a list of the planets and signs for translation. Find these on the internet and print them out so you can see them as well.
You will need to understand how to compare your natal chart to your partner’s. Below is a simple key that will help.
ASPECTS:
conjunction = 0 signs apart
semisextile = 1 sign apart
sextile = 2 signs apart
square = 3 signs apart
trine = 4 signs apart
quincunx = 5 signs apart
opposition = 6 signs apart
Example: Taurus and Capricorn are 4 signs apart.
PRACTICE:
Lets practice one, so you are sure to do it correctly. Get your natal chart out and look at the outer ring around the wheel. Now find Aries and put your finger on it. Aries will be RED and will look like the horns of a ram. Now, find Aquarius and put your other finger on it. Aquarius will be the ORANGE symbol that looks like double lightening bolts or double water waves. Now, move your finger from Aries toward Aquarius, taking the shortest route. Count aloud “ONE ” when you point to BLUE Pisces, then “TWO” when you point to Aquarius. So, Aries and Aquarius are TWO signs apart from one another. Good for you; you did it! Now, look above and see what TWO SIGNS APART means. It means a sextile, which is a harmonious aspect. Practice doing this till you are REALLY good at it. If you get this part wrong, the formula will do you NO GOOD. You must learn how to do this part to work the formula below.
Step 8: Draw a Comparison Chart. On a piece of paper write your name across the top and your partner’s name down the left side. Under your name draw the symbols for the SUN, MOON, VENUS, MARS, SATURN, AC, MC across the top, leaving a little space between each. Now, draw these same symbols down the left side for your partner. Now, with a straight edge draw the grid lines in so you have boxes filling the entire page.
Step 9: Using the COMPATIBILITY FORMULA below compare your planets/points to your partner’s planets/points as shown below. As you go along record each result in the correct box with a smiley face or a sad face. When you are done, get a YELLOW HIGHLIGHTER and highlight the VITAL aspect boxes, such as both SUN-MOON boxes, SUN-SUN box, VENUS-MARS boxes, SATURN-MARS boxes, and both SATURN-VENUS boxes. These are the MOST IMPORTANT boxes that reveal if you and your partner have the connections that provide “LASTING POTENTIAL.”
If you want you can take a BLUE HIGHLIGHTER and color in the “ADDITIONAL LOVE SUPPORT” boxes, such as MOON-MOON, AC-AC, and both SUN-AC.
You can use a PINK HIGHLIGHTER on the “ADDITIONAL SEXUAL SUPPORT” boxes, such as both SUN-VENUS, both MARS-MOON, and both AC-VENUS boxes.
After you are done, look at your completed comparison form and keep in mind that the SUN-MOON, SUN-SUN, MARS-VENUS, SATURN-MARS, and SATURN-VENUS boxes are THE STRONGEST CONNECTIONS for a lasting relationship, when they are positive connections.
The Sun-Sun, and the Sun-Moon boxes should have at LEAST ONE smiley face (two is more secure). The Mars-Venus boxes should have at LEAST ONE smiley face, and Saturn should have a smiley face with either Mars or Venus. If you only have the minimum for “lasting” and “sex,” then see your blue and pink boxes for additional support. This system acts as a basic ‘filtering’ system when you’re busy and/or don’t want to ‘play around’ with just anyone.
Make sure you compare all connections between the SUN, MOON, VENUS, MARS, AC…..and SATURN. Some Saturn connections are desired, as Saturn brings stability, commitment, and responsibility to the relationship.
BOTTOM LINE: there needs to be many MORE POSITIVE CONNECTIONS between the two charts than negative ones if it is to survive a long time.
Step 10: Get familiar with the basic COMPATIBILITY FORMULA below.
L O V E F O R M U L A
Ideally, the following planets should be in the SAME SIGN (conjunct), however if the two signs are compatible (usually trine or sextile) by ELEMENT there will be a GREAT amount of harmony. Conjuction is considered the ideal (but can be boring).
The closer the aspect is to exact (0°) the more intense the harmony will be. Don’t worry about this rule unless you are a student of astrology. This formula will still work wonders for you!
1) SUN / MOON (best: conjunction / great: trine/ good: opposition, sextile) = a happy & LASTING marriage/relationship
This is one of the most important positive aspects to have in regards to “lasting potential.” Without a harmonious connection, you are on shaky ground. If this aspect is disharmonious you will have trouble appreciating his manhood and he will have trouble valuing your womanhood. In addition, you aren’t likely to agree on how to raise children and your home life may lack harmony. Over time, this can eat away at your love for one another, so make sure your Suns and Moons are in harmony! If the match is only good one way, well then, it’s only half as strong as it could be with someone else, but it can still last. It just might require a little more work and patience.
2) SUN / SUN (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile, opposition) = will understand each other & like to do similar things
Exceptions to the Sun/Sun disharmony rule: Gemini/Cancer, Virgo/Libra, Aquarius/Pisces (these Sun signs can be compatible). Some same Sun signs can be difficult: Leo, Scorpio, Aries, Aquarius
This harmonious aspect is very important and provides instant rapport and camarade between the two of you! Without it neither of you will feel like you are understood by the other and your likes and dislikes are usually very different. If the two Suns are not in harmony, usually the couple’s relationship fairs better when they spend a lot of time AWAY from one another. Sometimes an addional harmonious aspect from other planets can make up for this, but it’s no guarantee. These helpful support aspects are listed below.
3) VENUS / MARS (best: conjunct/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = physical affection & sexual attraction
Lets face it: Sex is important. Psychologist say that Sex is the GLUE that binds a couple together. If these planets are in harmony your sex life will be stimulating & lasting even if differences exist. If you are a woman and this aspect is not harmonious, it’s unlikely that you will be able to keep this man for very long. There should be harmony between these two planets at LEAST in one direction. Listed below are other sexual aspects to provide additional support, but SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE.
Please, keep in mind that if Sun-Sun, Sun-Moon, and Venus-Mars are all in DISCORD, the relationship can be DRAINING on both of you, thus making the likelihood for success slim.
4) SATURN / MARS (best: conjunct/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = sexual commitment; serious desires; sense of responsibility and actions in harmony.
5) SATURN / VENUS (best: conjunct/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = love commitment; serious affections; sense of responsibility and sociablity/morality in harmony.
Additional LOVE Support For Lasting PotentialPotential:
MOON / MOON (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = emotionally compatible
AC / AC (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = will see ‘eye-to-eye’
SUN / AC (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile, opposition) = happy & content
Additional Support for Powerful Sexual Attraction & Affection:
VENUS / AC (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = imaginative lovers & know how to please one another
VENUS / SUN (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = joyous sex & mutual interests in other things
MARS / MOON (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = emotionally charged sex life, but can be volatile
Additional Positive Love Connections
SUN / MC (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = Career & Love Mix Well
If this aspect is not harmonious, going into business together could be very difficult.
CHIRON / CHIRON (best: conjunction/ great: trine/ good: sextile) = Destiny / Life Path
This aspect DOES NOT insure compatibility NOR does it mean that the two of you are “destined” to be LOVERS. It simply suggests that your paths have crossed for a reason. That reason could be that one of you or both of you have something to learn from the other, or maybe you are destined to be friends or colleagues. If all the other compatibility connections are strong, then this can add a “destiny” feeling to your relationship. More times than not, it shows the psychological wounds of one or both that can be healed by the connection, provided the aspect is conjunction, trine, or sextile. Example: When both people have their Chirons conjunct, they may share a similar wound and understand each other in a way that no one else can. This does not necessarily mean the relationship is meant to be permanent.
Challenging Combinations to be CAUTIOUS of:
MARS / PLUTO or URANUS (worst: conjunction/ bad: square, opposition, quincunx/ slight: semisextile) = can indicate violence, rape, and/or molestation
PLUTO / AC (conjunction, square, opposition) = can indicate violence, rape, and/or molestation
PLUTO or URANUS / AC (conjunction, square, opposition) = can indicate violence, rape, and/or molestation
MARS / AC (conjunction, square, opposition) = can indicate violence, rape, and/or molestation
These “bad” aspects DO NOT mean that you will definately have violence, rape and/or molestation problems with this person. It means that the POTENTIAL COULD BE there. Mars, Pluto and Uranus energy can be expressed in other ways besides violence, and often times they are. In fact, one CAN consciously redirect this energy toward the positive expressions of these planets. Review the keywords of each planet to see what your choices are!
Look for Mars/AC aspect within each Natal Chart. In a natal chart, this aspect can suggest that that person will ATTRACT violence, rape, and/or molestation into their life at some point. If one or both of you have any of these aspects in your natal chart AND have one these aspects between you, please, keep alert to any signs of aggression or extreme anger between you. Approach such a new relationship with great caution and consideration. It may be necessary to regularily workout together or expel this destructive energy in some other sort of physical exertion, such as dancing or intense physical labor.
If your natal chart shows that you have the potential to attract violence or rape into your chart, please, take precaution by not putting yourself into volernable situations, such as walking down a dark alley at night. Also, consider taking martial arts or self-defense classes. If you have displayed violent tendencies in the recent past, consider taking an anger management course and/or reading the book: How to Deal with Emotionally Explosive People, by Albert Bernstein, M.D. His book not only give great advice to victims, but also provides insight and understanding to the person who ‘blows up’ regarding the causes and prevention.

The above formula is a check for natural ”compatibility”. It serves the purpose for the initial “filtering.” Other important indicators can be found by checking both parties’ transits and progressions (for timing), reviewing the ”Composite Chart” (for compatibility), the “Synastry Chart” (for compatibility–shown above),” and examining the “First Meeting Chart” (for timing & lasting potential). Although this complete evaluation provides the “whole story,” the LOVE FORMULA is valid in determining basic compatibility.

How do you ask a prospective partner for their birth information without appearing wierd?
Short Answer: Shamelessly. It’s your life, right?
Long Answer: I guess it all depends on when you ask for it and what that person thinks about Astrology. If you’ve been seeing each other for a while it probably won’t be a big deal. However, if you’ve just met them, it could be more awkward. If you are a woman and the man is really interested in you, he more than likely won’t hold it against you, in fact, he will probably take it as “she’s interested in me,” and will cooperate fully just to get a date with you. If you are a man asking for her birth information, simply explain to her why you need the information and she will probably think you are a rare breed of man that is open-minded and modern. She may simply think it’s ‘cute.’ There’s no way of telling what the reaction will be, however, the bottom line is:
It’s YOUR life and you have a right to use whatever filtering system works to protect yourself against unhappy draining (or dangerous) relationships.
